EFCC: Niger Delta group threatens legal action against journalists, says cartels sworn to rubbish Betta Edu

The Niger Delta Advocacy Group has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for coming out clearly on the highlights of the ongoing investigations by the anti-graft Agency, saying the recent press release has vindicated Betta Edu as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Recall that the EFCC had recently issued a press statement to inform Nigerians of the ongoing investigations in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development (Not the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation).

“Discreet investigations by the EFCC have opened other fraudulent dealings involving COVID-19 funds, the World Bank loan, Abacha recovered loot released to the Ministry by the Federal Government to execute its poverty alleviation mandate” the statement said in part.

“We are not unaware of the cartels who had sworn to rubbish Betta Edu at all costs as part of their deliberate act to winch hunt the Minister because she is from the Niger Delta Region and due to her transparent and corrupt-free approach that has led to the recovery of Billions of Naira.

The Group National leader, Benjamin Berefa while speaking with Journalists in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, frowned at the recurrent sensational reportage by some media houses and mischief makers just to discredit the robust and innovative approach introduced by the passionate minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

“The progress that has been made under the leadership of Betta Edu’s sincerity, resilience and strategy is there for all to see within her five months before her suspension.

“We admonished journalists to fact-check their information before going to the press.

“If this goes unchecked, We shall begin to file for the defamation and libel suit against anyone, group or organisation aligning Edu’s commitment to deepening humanitarian care in Nigeria.

“We urge President Tinubu to take a stand and restore a major pillar of his cabinet so that the brewing poverty tension in Nigeria could be greatly reduced.
