You’re a greedy politician whose loyalty shifts with personal ambitions — Bauchi Governor Rubbishes Wike
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has launched a scathing attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of being a “transactional politician” whose loyalty shifts according to his personal ambitions.
In a strongly worded statement released on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed responded to Wike’s recent criticisms of his opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills.

Wike had earlier taken aim at Mohammed during a media chat, prompting a sharp rebuttal from the Bauchi governor.
Gidado dismissed Wike’s remarks as “baseless” and “hypocritical,” accusing the former Rivers State governor of political opportunism and double-dealing.
“While Wike accuses others of insincerity, he has seamlessly transitioned from being a self-proclaimed PDP stalwart to an ardent supporter of the APC government,” Gidado said. “He now advocates the re-election of the same APC administration in 2027, all while continuing to claim membership in the PDP. This chameleonic behaviour raises serious questions about Wike’s credibility and moral compass.”

A Record of Opportunism
Governor Mohammed’s camp did not mince words, describing Wike as a politician who prioritizes personal gain over loyalty and principles. According to Gidado, Nigerians are not fooled by Wike’s shifting allegiances.
“Wike’s erratic behaviour and opportunistic alliances expose him as an unreliable and fair-weather friend—traits that alienate even those who once stood by him,” the statement added.

The Bauchi governor contrasted Wike’s “self-serving theatrics” with his own approach to politics, describing it as a platform for public service and accountability. Mohammed’s opposition to Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills, the statement noted, was rooted in his commitment to inclusive governance and meaningful dialogue.
Undermining the PDP
Governor Mohammed’s team also criticized Wike for undermining the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which they said had played a pivotal role in his political career.

“It is disheartening that a man who owes so much to a party that stood by him in his political journey has chosen to be a willing tool in its denigration,” Gidado said.
He noted that Wike’s support for the APC-led government, despite being a PDP member, demonstrated a lack of principle and loyalty.
Achievements in Governance

Gidado also highlighted Mohammed’s achievements in Bauchi State, describing him as a leader focused on delivering results.
“Senator Bala Mohammed’s achievements in Bauchi State speak for themselves. His leadership has elevated the PDP as a formidable opposition party, countering the excesses of the APC-led federal government, while Wike busies himself playing a double game—PDP by day, APC by night,” the statement read.
Gidado dismissed Wike’s claim that he was not friends with Governor Mohammed as irrelevant, arguing that governance is built on competence, vision, and service, not personal friendships.
Final Jab
In closing, the Bauchi governor extended an olive branch, albeit with a hint of sarcasm.
“Should Wike ever have a moment of genuine self-reflection and wish to align himself with true leadership, Senator Bala Mohammed would welcome him with open arms. Until then, Wike’s friendship or lack thereof is inconsequential to the progress of Bauchi State and the strengthening of Nigeria’s democracy,” the statement concluded.
