‘You can help the poor, but not associate with them’ — Pastor Ibiyeomie tells wealthy congregants

The founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has doubled down on his claim about Jesus hating the poor.

In a new sermon aimed at justifying his earlier claim that Jesus Christ never associated with the poor, Ibiyeomie claimed that the Holy Spirit told him that Christians should only help the poor but not to associate with them.

He made this assertion while speaking to his congregation on Easter Sunday in reaction to social media buzz about his controversial claim that Jesus hates the poor, which he made without citing any Bible verse.

He said: “Somebody called me and said internet is on fire. I said what is on fire. I don’t even know what is on fire. I’m not interested. But for curiosity, I said Holy Spirit, if I’m wrong tell me. I will never say I’m right when I’m wrong.

“He (Holy Spirit) was dictating God’s word to me verbatim. He said you’re not wrong, you’re right. I said how. He said listen, and he began to breakdown scriptures.

“He said I became sin for humanity. True, I said yes. He said do you like sin, I said no. He (Holy Spirit) said can you be a friend to a sinner, he (same Holy Spirit) said no. He (Holy Spirit) said you can only lead people to Christ, but you cannot be with the sinner. Is that not true? I said yes.

“He (Holy Spirit) quoted scriptures to me. He said don’t sit in the council of the ungodly. He (Holy Spirit) said everyone gets angry when a believer mixes with sinners. So, also when the believer mixes with the poor, people should get angry. He (Holy Spirit) said I was made poor that you might be rich. So, poverty is not of me. He (Holy Spirit) said you can help the poor, but not associate with the poor, because if you do that you are saying my death and resurrection is in vain
