A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Sani, has disclosed that former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, was expelled from the party because he allegedly demanded that the PDP must not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 election as a condition for reconciliation.
Sani made the revelation during an interview with Arise News, monitored by News Week Nigeria, where he recounted the party’s prolonged but failed attempts to reconcile with Wike.
According to him, the PDP reconciliation committee had approached Wike in a bid to restore unity within the party, but the former Rivers State governor insisted on an extraordinary condition — that the PDP must completely forgo presenting a presidential candidate in 2027.

He described Wike’s stance as a declaration of political war, making peaceful resolution unattainable.
“The condition Wike gave the PDP reconciliation committee is that the PDP must agree not to field a presidential candidate in the 2027 elections, and that is the only condition he will allow peace. Otherwise, this is a fight to finish,” Sani stated.
The PDP chieftain said the party leadership found the demand impossible and unreasonable, thereby justifying Wike’s expulsion during the ongoing national convention in Ibadan.

Sani further clarified that the presence or absence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the convention does not invalidate the proceedings, citing relevant electoral laws and court orders that affirm the legality of the exercise.
His remarks add new depth to the internal crisis rocking the PDP, shedding light on the high-stakes power struggle that ultimately led to Wike’s removal from the party.
