Why Tinubu Will Lose 2027 Presidential Election – SDP Chairman, Gabam

The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term in 2027 are slim due to the challenges he is facing early in his tenure.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Gabam highlighted a historical trend where Nigerian presidents who encounter significant political and economic hurdles within their first two years in office often fail in their re-election bids.

He referenced former President Goodluck Jonathan, whose administration faced mounting opposition by its second year, ultimately leading to his defeat in 2015.

“No president that was elected to serve four years and has issues in two years can survive,” Gabam stated. “Jonathan’s opposition started within two years – he lost the election.”

Gabam further criticized the performance of Tinubu’s cabinet, arguing that many of his ministers lack the capacity to execute the president’s vision effectively. He emphasized that the current economic crisis gripping Nigeria is unprecedented and is fueling public dissatisfaction with the government.

“Nigeria has never faced the economic hardship they are facing today,” he noted.

The SDP chairman’s comments come amid growing political speculations, following his recent meeting with former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and allies of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The meeting has sparked rumors of a potential political alliance ahead of the 2027 elections, potentially setting the stage for a formidable opposition to Tinubu’s government.

Gabam’s warning adds to the mounting scrutiny of Tinubu’s leadership as he navigates economic challenges, public dissatisfaction, and a fractured political landscape.

Whether the president can reverse the tide and rebuild public trust remains to be seen as Nigeria braces for what could be a defining political contest in 2027.
