Whistleblower Behind PIDOMNigeria in Critical Condition After Detention and Torture

Isaac Bristol, the individual alleged to be the face behind the anonymous whistleblower account PIDOMNigeria on X, is reportedly in critical condition following his detention by the Nigeria Police Force.

Bristol, who has been in custody at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja, is said to have suffered severe injuries, particularly to his index finger, after enduring torture during his detention.

According to an anonymous source within the FCID, the situation is dire, with Bristol at risk of losing his finger if immediate medical attention is not provided. “His index finger is badly hurt and almost paralyzed. He may lose the finger if nothing is done quickly,” the source revealed to West Africa Weekly.

The whistleblower’s detention has sparked outrage, particularly as reports have surfaced that Bristol has been denied access to his family, friends, and legal representation.

His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, was reportedly barred from visiting him on Saturday, citing a “new directive” from the National Cybercrime Centre (NCCC). This move has been widely criticized as a violation of his human rights, exacerbating his deteriorating health due to poor nutrition and the lack of necessary medical care.

Nigerians, including Bristol’s family and Ijaw community leaders, have called for his immediate and unconditional release. They argue that under Nigerian law, every citizen is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and that Bristol’s treatment in detention represents a grave violation of his rights and dignity.
