‘What Ayade told me about Prince Otu’ — Ezama recounts as he celebrates Governor Otu’s 66th birthday
As congratulations continue to pour in for Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, on his 66th birthday, former Special Adviser on Education to ex-Governor Ben Ayade, Castro Ezama, has shared a touching tribute, recalling moments that shaped Otu’s political journey.
In a heartfelt message, Ezama revealed what former Governor Ayade once told him about Otu, describing the governor as a loyal and selfless leader whose political rise was divinely orchestrated.

“As an Atam Boy, he never bothered having me around him when he was a member of the House of Representatives,” Ezama wrote, noting that even then, Otu stood out as “an amazing National Assembly member who devoted his time in the service of his people and beyond.”
Ezama narrated how Otu’s political fortunes once took a downturn, recalling the moment they sat in the home of Senator Owan Enoh after losing a re-election bid.
“We were consoled by the calm words from the distinguished Senator. We left Prof’s house hoping for a brighter future. The moment came when God had perfected,” he said.

He further recounted the turbulent period during Otu’s governorship bid, with numerous petitions filed against him at the APC national secretariat.
“His primary school was visited, maybe to tamper with his primary school certificate. I was there in the capacity of SA Education to ensure safety,” Ezama stated.
Ezama praised Ayade’s loyalty to Otu despite his own setbacks during the 2023 elections.

“Former Governor Ayade had lost his Senate election. As painful as that was, he said to me, ‘Castro, let us focus on Sweet Prince’s election. We must work harder to have him win.’”
He went on to recall how he mobilised teachers for a crucial meeting with Ayade during the post-election reviews, where demands for promotions, implementation of policies, and extension of service years were approved — a move he described as “a huge milestone.”
According to him, Governor Otu’s eventual election victory was the result of “resilient men and women whom God used to make it happen.”
Describing the governor as “calm, humble, and instrumental to APC’s victory across board,” Ezama expressed optimism that the ruling party would duly reward Otu for his loyalty and sacrifices.
He concluded with a celebratory call:
“Join me to celebrate our beloved governor on the occasion of his 66th birthday. Happy birthday, Your Excellency. We love you, Boss.”
Governor Bassey Otu, fondly called “Sweet Prince,” continues to receive goodwill messages from across the state as he marks another year of impactful leadership.
