Weeks to Possible Reinstatement: Fubara Lands in Fresh Trouble, Accused  of Campaigning Against Tinubu

The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has been accused of spearheading a smear campaign against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, just weeks before his anticipated reinstatement.

The Coalition for Justice and Democracy (CJD), in a statement signed on Wednesday by its president, Comrade Raymond Aighona, alleged that Fubara was behind the circulation of a controversial document on social media. The document reportedly accused Rivers’ Sole Administrator, Ibok-Eket Ibas, of mismanaging half a trillion naira and inflating contracts to bankroll President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.

Describing the allegations as “baseless blackmail,” the coalition said its findings showed no evidence of financial impropriety against Ibas, who was appointed following the declaration of emergency rule in the state.

“Siminalayi Fubara has chosen the path of bitterness and deceit. He has not forgiven President Tinubu for saving Rivers State from total political anarchy through emergency rule. Now, in an act of reckless vengeance, he is sponsoring falsehoods, pushing forged documents, and trying to smear the reputation of the President and the Sole Administrator. These antics will not succeed,” the statement read.

The group stressed that Ibas’ actions were being closely monitored by oversight committees from both chambers of the National Assembly. According to the coalition, every expenditure was subjected to due process, making it “laughable and mischievous” for anyone to suggest that Ibas siphoned such colossal sums from the state’s coffers.

CJD further accused Fubara of attempting to destabilise Rivers through “propaganda politics,” warning that such actions could reignite tensions in the oil-rich state.

“What Fubara is doing is reckless and dangerous. Rather than take responsibility for the failures of his short-lived administration, he is weaponising lies, sowing distrust, and dragging the President’s name into his personal vendetta,” the coalition declared.

The group praised Ibas’ “steady leadership,” which it said had restored calm to Rivers since the emergency rule began, insisting that he deserved commendation and not vilification.

It also called on security agencies to investigate the source of the forged document and prosecute those behind what it described as “malicious propaganda.”

“There is no half-trillion naira missing from Rivers’ coffers. There are no inflated contracts funding the President’s re-election. These are lies from the pit of desperation. The real story is that Fubara, who has been constitutionally sidelined under emergency rule, is fighting back with propaganda. He must be called out,” CJD stated.
