Tinubu presidency is not legitimate, INEC has not done the right thing, Peter Obi is a symbol that reflects ‘the anger of the people’ — Donald Duke

Donald Duke, former governor of Cross River State, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of not doing the proper thing during the February 25th presidential elections.

Duke, in a viral video obtained by NEWS WEEK NIGERIA, said Bola Ahmed Tinubu presidency is not legitimate, adding that the INEC has not done the right thing by declaring Tinubu winner of the presidential election.

He said:

“I wish Asiwaju well. He’s a colleague of mine. He’s a very good friend of mine. But let’s not kid ourselves. We don’t have the energy we had in 1999. Hmmm! He has a challenge to legitimize his presidency. Too many aspersions. INEC has not done the right thing, right? So even if you are a president and you’re not seen as the legitimate one.

“You need to have a moral authority to govern. So, hmm! Asiwaju has to legitimize that. There are tough decisions to be taken; currency, subsidy, national motivation, productivity. How do you put all of these things together? Right, and make society work? So, he has to pick the best team. He has to reach out. If he can’t win an election on election day, he has to win the support of the people thereafter.”

He added:

“So he has a lot of work to do. The only thing that would give him that support is to deliver, and not just on his promises, but on the expectations of the people. For someone to start and within six months, Peter Obi is a symbol. It is not him. What does he say that we have even heard of? He’s a symbol that reflects two things; the anger of the people and what could be. He says the right thing, and people have keyed onto it.”

“If Peter was running on the platform of the PDP, he won’t get that traction. I said this to him. You have an army of young people who see hope in you. What are you going to do with them? You’re not going to join PDP. You’re not going to join APC. But they have tasted blood, so they want to be involved in the government, in the politics of their country, and they see you as the right head. You’ve got to reflect. You’ve got to know what to do with them. You’ve got to provide them a platform to pursue their ideals, and it’s a righteous one.”

He concluded:

“Everyone has the right to employment. Young people have two options; either they leave and see a lot of that happens, or they stay back and fight it out. For them, they have nothing to lose, and that is what you saw. If something is not done urgently, it would go from a passive revolution, which was what we had on Saturday on the 25th, to an actionable revolution, which is what we had , what we called the #EndSars, in fact the #EndSars was still passive, but #EndSars in Cross River State was not passive because they destroyed. We don’t want that on the national scale because you can push people to the brinks.
