Speaking during a courtesy visit to prominent cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, the governor criticized the president’s policies, claiming they have caused widespread hardship, particularly in the northern region.
Governor Mohammed accused President Tinubu of implementing reforms that disregard the voices and welfare of ordinary Nigerians. He specifically pointed to recent federal tax reforms, which he argued disproportionately affect northern states that are heavily reliant on federal allocations.
“Tinubu and I are not on good terms because his policies are causing hardship for the citizens,” the governor stated. “The North heavily relies on federal allocation to survive. The reforms he is proposing will put the region under dire strain.”

The governor appealed to Sheikh Jingir, a notable supporter of the controversial Muslim-Muslim ticket that brought Tinubu to power, to mediate and influence the president. “Thank God you are alive today to use your wise words of wisdom. We politicians tend to use harsh words, but I believe you can inspire the change we need,” Governor Mohammed said.
He emphasized the importance of adopting an inclusive governance approach that addresses the needs of all Nigerians, especially those in economically disadvantaged regions.
Governor Mohammed’s remarks come amidst growing concerns about the federal government’s economic policies under President Tinubu, which have sparked debates nationwide. Northern leaders have expressed fears that the region may bear the brunt of the administration’s reforms, further widening economic inequalities across the country.
