Tinubu’s Re-election In Jeopardy as ADC, Opposition Parties complete coalition process, battle-ready to wrestle power from APC

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term may be facing a formidable challenge as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Thursday announced the completion of a coalition process with other opposition parties, signaling a united front to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

At the ADC’s 89th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, party leaders unveiled plans for sweeping reforms and a series of congresses leading to a national convention aimed at repositioning the party ahead of the next general election.

National Chairman of the ADC, Dr. Ralphs Okey Nwosu, told NEC members he would be stepping down from his role. He, however, assured members of his continued support for the party’s growth and transformation.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Mani, declared that the ADC had undergone significant internal restructuring, attracting new political actors and grassroots organizations to its fold.

“In the past two decades, we have shown unwavering commitment to national development,” Dr. Mani said. “We’ve demonstrated patriotism and made sacrifices in the interest of future generations.”

He decried the current state of governance under the APC-led administration, citing rising poverty rates as evidence of deepening economic hardship.

“Statistics show that about five million Nigerians are pushed into poverty every year,” he stated. “This is unacceptable for a country with such abundant resources.”

Dr. Mani squarely blamed what he termed “decades of bad governance” for the country’s woes and called for greater political engagement from citizens. He described the ADC as a “formidable platform” for re-engineering Nigeria’s political system and restoring hope.

The coalition, he revealed, includes civil society groups and grassroots movements, forming what he called a “broad-based political force.”

According to him, months of painstaking consensus-building have now culminated in a united coalition prepared to take on the APC in the 2027 general elections.

“This is a momentous occasion for the ADC,” he declared. “We have become the coalition party in Nigeria. We invite all Nigerians who love this country to join us in this mission for real democratic change.”

Positioning itself as an inclusive, national platform, the ADC emphasized its commitment to unity, economic opportunity, and peace. Dr. Mani reiterated the party’s vision for a Nigeria where all citizens can thrive, regardless of region or background.

As the 2027 election cycle looms closer, this development marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, potentially reshaping the balance of power and mounting serious pressure on President Tinubu and the APC.
