Tinubu’s Minister Accused of Ordering Assault on Constituent in Cross River
Senator John Owan Enoh, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Trade and Investment, is facing serious allegations after a constituent accused him of orchestrating a physical assault.
The accusations, reported by The Pledge Newspaper, suggest that the altercation took place shortly after a local government election, which saw limited opposition in the minister’s home area.
Another media outlet, The News Turf, reported that Obi, an outspoken supporter of Cross River Governor Bassey Otu, sustained injuries requiring medical attention following an attack by police allegedly assigned to protect Senator Enoh.
Obi has reportedly been a vocal critic of Owan Enoh, particularly during the 2023 gubernatorial election, in which Otu won against Owan Enoh. Observers suggest that tensions over past political differences may have fueled the incident.
In a separate incident, Senator Enoh allegedly confronted another resident who had shown public support for other political figures. This confrontation reportedly turned physical, leaving the individual injured and hospitalized. According to bystanders, Enoh allegedly boasted about his influence as a federal minister, claiming he could control political appointments in the area, including key council seats, and could not be held accountable for his actions.
These events have revived concerns over previous accusations of violence against the minister. In a similar instance years ago, Enoh was reportedly involved in violent encounters with individuals, including Barrister Agbor Agbor and Obi Steve, both of whom are his relatives.
Efforts by local media outlets to reach Senator Enoh for comment have so far been unsuccessful. However, his media aide, Justin Obongha, has denied the allegations, stating that he has verified the information with the minister’s security team, who also refuted the claims
