“Tinubu’s government is the worst in Nigerian history. We are ready to match APC, and we will defend our votes this time around,” he said.

Amaechi, who is a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said the party was determined to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027, stressing that his commitment to a free and fair primary was unwavering.

“In a free and fair primary, whoever wins will have my full support. I will be deeply devoted to the campaign and will do everything possible to help ADC unseat this clueless government,” he stated.

The former minister took aim at several political figures and institutions, describing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, as “the worst in Nigeria’s history” and accusing influential elites of frequenting the Central Bank of Nigeria to loot public funds.

Amaechi promised far-reaching reforms if elected president, including changing the constitution from “indigenship to citizenship,” maintaining the removal of fuel subsidies but redirecting savings into the pockets of ordinary Nigerians, and tackling corruption head-on.

“If I do not end corruption in Nigeria within one month, I will tender my resignation,” he vowed.

He also dismissed the ongoing clamour for Labour Party’s Peter Obi, questioning the validity of polls suggesting Obi’s popularity. Additionally, Amaechi ruled out support for former President Goodluck Jonathan, saying Jonathan would have to explain what he achieved for Nigerians during his tenure.

On infrastructure, Amaechi criticised the controversial Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, describing it as “a road for stealing” and promising to scrap it if elected.
