Three PDP Governors in Talks with Tinubu Ahead of Potential Defection
Reports indicate that three governors from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are in discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, potentially paving the way for their defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It has been gathered that some PDP governors have visited President Tinubu in Lagos or invited him to commission projects in their respective states. These visits, described as strategic, are believed to serve as platforms for ongoing discussions about potential defections.
Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, is reportedly spearheading efforts to woo PDP governors to the APC, aiming to solidify the party’s dominance ahead of the next elections.
Delta Governor’s Alleged Defection Sparks Controversy
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has fueled speculation about a possible defection following his recent endorsement of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Speaking through his Commissioner for Information, Ifeanyi Osuoza, at a workshop in Asaba, Oborevwori emphasized his administration’s commitment to supporting policies that benefit Deltans.
However, this has sparked concern among Delta PDP leaders, who are demanding clarity on the governor’s loyalty. In an open letter signed by party leaders Theophilus Ekiyor, Ochuko Oghenekome, and Ezekiel Chukwudi, the group called on Oborevwori to address the rumors.
“We demand prompt clarification from you to put us in the picture. A delayed response could be considered glaring evidence of your compromised position,” the letter stated.
The letter also alleged that Oborevwori has been in talks with key presidential aides, including Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a bid to secure a meeting with Tinubu to finalize his defection.
Tinubu Lauds Enugu Governor
During a recent visit to Enugu State, President Tinubu commended Governor Peter Mbah for his developmental strides. Tinubu described Mbah as a results-oriented leader who has driven technological advancements and attracted private sector investments.
“I salute Peter Mbah for his commitment to development. You’ve built a solid team, and I’ve reviewed a number of things with you in Abuja. You’ve impressed me with the technological advancements in the state,” Tinubu said during his visit.
Plateau Governor’s Visit Raises Eyebrows
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State further stoked speculation by visiting President Tinubu at his residence in Lagos during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. The meeting has added to the growing list of PDP governors reportedly engaging with the presidency.
Growing Unease in the PDP
The increasing interactions between PDP governors and the APC leadership have sparked alarm within the opposition party. Many PDP stakeholders are concerned about the loyalty of key members, warning against what they describe as self-serving political moves. They have called for unity to prevent further losses ahead of the 2027 elections.
