Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed displeasure over what he described as the failure of some of his political appointees to defend his administration against criticisms on social media.

The governor, who spoke during a meeting with aides and stakeholders, accused some appointees of “eating from both sides,” alleging that while they collect salaries from the state government, they fail to publicly counter opposition narratives.

“We need to seize the social media space. It’s not that the opposition is winning the battle, but some of my political appointees, because they are eating from both sides, cannot even come out to defend the government,” Oyebanji said.

According to him, a few appointees deliberately remain silent even when the administration is under attack online. He warned that those guilty of such conduct are being noted and would face consequences in due time.

“Very few of them will be on platforms where they are attacking us, and yet we keep mute. They won’t be able to talk, and they are collecting salaries every month. Listen, please, I’m marking them one by one. I am not going to talk now, but rest assured, both those of you that, on platforms where they are dragging us, kept quiet and were collecting money from this administration—we will come back at a proper time,” the governor added.

Oyebanji emphasized the need for his team to be proactive in defending the policies and programmes of his government, stressing that silence in the face of opposition propaganda was unacceptable.
