“This Place I’m Sitting Is a Prison” — Tinubu Speaks on Burden of Leadership
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has likened the presidency to a prison, confessing that there are issues in the country he is not fully aware of despite being at the helm of affairs.
The revelation was made by a former House of Representatives member and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Farouk Adamu Aliyu, during an interview with Channels Television.

Aliyu, who shared details of a private discussion he recently had with the president, said Tinubu spoke candidly about the enormous weight of leadership and the constraints of his office.
“Last week when I saw him, that was the issue we discussed – we discussed about the situation in the north where people are agitating. He said, ‘Look, I know there are a lot of issues – some I know, some I don’t know,’” Aliyu recounted.
“He said, ‘Honorable, this place I’m sitting is a prison. I want you to understand that there are certain things you will not know.’”

According to Aliyu, the president’s remarks revealed the extent of pressure associated with his position, particularly as insecurity and economic challenges continue to dominate national discourse.
“I pitied him. I sympathised. I understood that it is true – when you are a president, there are certain things you don’t know, and every problem of this country hits on the president,” Aliyu added.
The APC stalwart noted that Tinubu’s words reflect the weight of responsibility placed on the president’s shoulders, stressing that Nigerians must appreciate the complexities of governance in a country as diverse and troubled as Nigeria.
