There will be no convention until our demands are met — Wike’s camp issues conditions to PDP leadership

Wike’s camp within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set out conditions that must be met by the party leadership ahead of its national convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The group, which includes the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; PDP National Secretary, Sam Anyanwu; National Vice Chairman, South-South, Dan Orbih; former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, and other key stakeholders, issued the conditions after a meeting in Abuja on Monday night.

News Week Nigeria had reported that Wike and some leaders of the PDP met yesterday night at the residence of the minister.

In a communiqué released after the meeting, the stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to equity, inclusivity, and internal democracy in the party. They warned that the convention could be rendered invalid if legitimate members were disenfranchised or court rulings ignored.

The communiqué stressed the need for transparent and inclusive congresses in Ebonyi and Anambra States, the conduct of a fresh South-East Zonal Congress, immediate compliance with court orders on Ekiti congresses, and recognition of the valid South-South congress held in Calabar. It also emphasised that the position of National Chairman must remain in the North-Central, in line with the zoning formula adopted at the 2021 convention.

According to the group, micro-zoning would only destabilise the party and undermine peace. It insisted that fairness and respect for judicial pronouncements must guide preparations for the Ibadan convention.

“We, the Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders, remain steadfast in our loyalty to the party and resolute in our determination to work with all organs and leaders of the PDP to ensure that the forthcoming National Convention becomes a watershed moment — a moment where unity triumphs over division, and justice prevails over impunity.

“Only then can the PDP speak with one voice, act with one heart, and march with renewed strength toward victory,” they said.
