Palpable tension has gripped Rivers State as several Local Government Chairmen loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike have reportedly fled for their safety.
Reliable sources indicate that among those who have left their posts are the Chairmen of Asari Toru and Ikwerre Local Governments. The sudden departures come amidst a political shake-up following the end of their tenures and the inauguration of Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

As of the latest reports, residents of Asari Toru have taken control of their council secretariat.
Eyewitnesses describe a scene of unrest as locals await further instructions from Governor Fubara, whose official directive is expected to address the sudden power vacuum and restore order.
One indigene from the area told NewsWeek Nigeria, “We are currently in a state of limbo, waiting for the Governor’s decision on how to proceed. The situation is tense, and we hope for a resolution soon.”
