Tension As Northern Youth Burn PDP Governor’s Forum Chairman Posters and billboards in Bauchi, Gombe, Accuse Him of Working for Tinubu
Tensions flared across parts of Northern Nigeria on Tuesday as irate youths in Bauchi and Gombe states took to the streets, burning posters and billboards bearing the image of Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
The protests erupted following widespread reports that the governor had declined to join a proposed political coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Governor Mohammed, who also chairs the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, recently led a strategic meeting of PDP leaders in Ibadan, where the party made its position clear.
Speaking at the press briefing that followed the meeting, Mohammed emphasized that while the PDP remains open to alliances with “like-minded individuals and political organizations,” it would not be part of any coalition formed solely to oppose the APC.

“We are open to dialogue and building bridges,” Governor Mohammed said. “However, the PDP will not tie its future to any coalition that is solely aimed at fighting the APC. Our focus is on rebuilding our party and presenting a credible alternative to Nigerians.”
His remarks have not gone down well with segments of the northern youth, many of whom accuse the governor of secretly aligning with the APC. “Kauran Bauchi is working for Tinubu, hiding under the PDP,” said one protester in Gombe, who declined to be named. “If he refuses to stand with the rest of the opposition, then he is standing against the people.”
The angry demonstrators torched political signage and defaced billboards across major roads, chanting anti-government slogans and demanding the governor’s resignation from the PDP leadership. Eyewitnesses report that local law enforcement has been deployed to restore order, though the protests remained largely peaceful as of Tuesday afternoon.

This unrest comes amid growing speculation about a potential mega-opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 elections. Political heavyweights such as former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have all reportedly held talks aimed at forming a unified front against the APC.
Despite the outrage, PDP insiders maintain that the party’s priority is to strengthen its internal structures and offer a viable platform to Nigerians in 2027, rather than being drawn into what they describe as reactionary politics.
