“Stop Labouring in Vain, You Won’t Win” — APC Advises PDP
As political campaigns heat up ahead of the August 16 House of Representatives bye-election for the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has told the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to quit the race, saying the opposition stands no chance of winning.
Princess Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, the APC’s candidate in the election, gave the advice through a statement issued by her campaign media team on Wednesday. She said it would be a waste of time and resources for the PDP to contest the seat, claiming the people of Remo have seen the difference between winning and losing teams.

According to her, “It is foolhardy for any candidate to think Remo people would be so unwise as to abandon a winning team and opt for a losing one.”
She emphasized the dominance of the APC in Ogun State and the constituency, noting that all senators, House of Representatives members, local government chairmen, and councillors from the state are APC members. She also reminded the opposition that Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun, who hails from Remo, is a member and leader of the APC.
“The entire National Assembly is dominated by APC, and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who is a Yoruba man, is not only a founding member of APC but also its national leader. So, why should Remo isolate itself politically by voting for the opposition?” she queried.

Elegbeji also paid tribute to the late Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the former lawmaker whose death earlier this year necessitated the bye-election. She described Onanuga as a high-performing APC lawmaker whose legacy continues to impact Remo positively.
“Her death grieved everyone in Remo because of the numerous visible and impactful projects she attracted to the constituency. That’s why we must continue with the momentum and not allow opposition forces to truncate this progress,” she added.
The APC candidate said the PDP was free to contest under the law, but advised the party to be realistic.

“They have the right to contest, but it’s clear they’re only wasting resources. All notable PDP leaders and their supporters in Remo have long defected to the APC. What’s left is a shadow of the party,” she said.
Concluding, she warned that electing a PDP candidate would amount to sending a “lone voice in the wilderness” to the National Assembly, potentially denying Remo its fair share of federal projects.
“Remo deserves to be heard and served, not isolated,” she said.
