‘Retrace your steps and conduct yourself now’ — Wike’s Ally, Anyanwu Warns PDP National Chairman

 

 

 

The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, a close ally of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has warned the party’s National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum to conduct himself, accusing him of instigating crisis by violating the party’s constitution.

 

 

Anyanwu, in a letter dated October 1, 2025, condemned the dissolution of the Akwa Ibom and Cross River State Working Committees and their replacement with caretaker committees, describing the move as unconstitutional and a gross violation of the party’s internal rules.

 

Citing Section 36(1)(b) and (e) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), Anyanwu reminded Damagum that the National Secretary is constitutionally empowered to conduct the party’s correspondence, issue notices of meetings of the National Convention, National Executive Committee (NEC), National Caucus and National Working Committee (NWC), and ensure the implementation of decisions taken by these bodies.

 

“Regrettably, you have disregarded these provisions of the constitution without recourse to the legal implications of your actions. You should be aware that any action or decisions purportedly reached by an illegally constituted NWC is null and void and of no effect,” Anyanwu warned.

 

He further stated that the press statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary announcing the dissolution of the two state executives was invalid since the notice of the NWC meeting held on September 30, 2025, was not issued by his office.

 

“The decision to undermine the duties of my office as provided by the party constitution is provocative and grossly unacceptable by me,” he wrote.

 

He urged Damagum to “retrace your steps and conduct yourself and the affairs of our party in strict compliance with the PDP Constitution 2017 as Amended. A stitch in time saves nine.”

 

The letter is the latest in the crisis rocking the opposition party, which has been deepening in recent weeks. Last week, both Damagum and Anyanwu sent conflicting letters to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the conduct of the Cross River State congress.

 

While Damagum’s letter denied knowledge of the events, Anyanwu’s letter approved of them.
