Prince Otu’s Administration Won’t Repeat Ayade’s Mistakes — Cross River APC Chairman

The outgoing Governor, Senator Ben Ayade’s Administration, made mistakes that the incoming Governor, Prince Bassey Otu’s Government, has vowed to not repeat, according to Barrister Alphonsus Eba, Chairman of the All Progressives Party, APC in Cross River State.

Ayade’s administration tolerated a lot of things that Otu’s administration won’t, according to Eba, who said this while answering questions from newsmen during the week.

He said:

“We will support the governor and stand by him to succeed, but we won’t let the mistakes we made under Governor Ayade happen again,” he declared. Because of his generosity, he allowed a lot of abuse, which ultimately hurt us; government appointees will go out into the field, collect money, and work against a man who has provided for their family’s needs for eight years? As a result, you will not be able to relate because you are not from Cross River North.

According to reports, Governor Ayade is dissatisfied with some of his high-profile appointees because he believes they betrayed him during the Cross River North senatorial election, which he lost to Senator Jarigbe Agom, who is now in office.

Ayade has gone on firing sprees of appointees who were thought to have worked for opposition parties since losing the senatorial seat.

Governor Ayade has set aside 6 days (April 26 to May 4, 2023) for the issuance of appointment letters to all political appointees, according to a previous report from News Week Nigeria. This was done through the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Tina Agbor.

Speaking further, Eba said that those requesting his resignation are wasting their time and that he will not step down because he has worked hard to earn it.

He asserted that he won’t succumb to pressure to step down and claimed that those pushing him to do so are spies working against his party and a source of blackmail who will soon go after him if they find out.

He added:

“For anyone who is alleged to have engaged in anti-party activity, you have the chance to go and clear your name. My eyes are on the prize, we are focused on forming a government, and I have proclaimed “monkey work, monkey chop, baboon no work, baboon no chop.” No amount of threats or things against my name will ever be able to divert my attention.

“Let the entire Cross Riverian population from the PDP, Labour Party, and APC come here in protest; they cannot remove me from this seat because I’m acting morally. I am aware of the procedures for a State Chairman’s removal, but they lack the ability and ability to do so.

I am not a local breed; I am a national and international breed, so people should know that the business of bringing the APC together to continue the governance of a State is not a tea party; I have abandoned everything in my life — I have kept away from my family, abandoned my LLA programme at the risk of my health, working more than 20 hours a day — and you think now that we have succeeded some funny characters will come and play around? It’s not possible; I’m not a coward. Eba stated, “I have not been, and I will not be at the age of 47 or 48.
