‘Politicians Write Election Results in Nigeria, I’ll Go to White House and Inform Trump if Anything Goes Wrong in Osun’ — Davido

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised concerns over the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process, saying he would seek the intervention of United States President Donald Trump if anything goes wrong during the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.

Davido made the remarks during a livestream hosted by comedian and content creator Carter Efe, where he spoke about his political ambitions and the challenges facing Nigeria’s electoral system.

The singer said he believes he has the popularity and support needed to succeed in politics but would only consider contesting for elective office when elections are conducted in a transparent and credible manner.

According to him, the lack of transparency in Nigeria’s elections remains a major obstacle to his political ambitions.

“Until there’s transparency, then I can go ahead with politics because nobody can beat me in any election. If there’s a free and fair election, let everybody come out to vote, I will win.

“But because of the system, there’s no transparency; they write the results,” Davido said.

The singer then turned his attention to the upcoming Osun State governorship election, saying he was watching developments closely and would wait to see how the election would be conducted.

“I want to see what they are going to do in Osun. We are waiting,” he said.

Davido, who hails from Osun State, warned that he would not remain silent if he believed the election was manipulated.

He said he was prepared to draw the attention of Trump and other influential figures to any alleged irregularities, even threatening to take his protest to the White House.

“I’ll tag Trump, I’ll call Trump, everybody. If they still don’t see anything, I’ll go in front of the White House and say, ‘Help us.’ They think it’s a joke,” he said.

Davido added humorously that he expected his message to reach the US president.

“Trump will just say, ‘I think there’s a Nigerian artiste sending me a message. Don’t worry, my message will be delivered,’” he said.

The singer concluded his remarks with a direct appeal concerning the election in his home state: “Leave Osun alone oo, Leave it.”

Davido has previously spoken openly about politics and governance in Nigeria, although he has yet to formally announce plans to contest an elective position.

His latest comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the Osun governorship election, with attention increasingly focused on the credibility, transparency and security of the electoral process.
