Plot to Rig 2027 Polls By Creating Dual Sets of Original Results Forms, Producing Two Sets of Forms EC8 Series Uncovered

Fresh concerns have emerged over the integrity of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, as insiders within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have raised alarm about a coordinated scheme to compromise the process.

According to multiple sources, powerful political actors are allegedly plotting to infiltrate INEC structures with the aim of manipulating results.

The scheme reportedly involves producing dual sets of original election result forms (EC8 series) — one to be displayed publicly at polling units and another secretly deployed to alter outcomes in targeted areas.

“This strategy is meant to create the illusion of transparency, while quietly manipulating what is uploaded to the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV),” a senior official at the commission revealed.

Beyond the production of parallel forms, insiders described a broader “cocktail of manipulations,” including deliberate tampering with the IReV platform, exploiting vulnerabilities in the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), and influencing the ongoing voter registration process.

Investigations also point to breaches of INEC’s operational protocols, designed to create discrepancies between results recorded at polling stations and those transmitted electronically. Observers warn that such tactics, if left unchecked, could make the 2027 elections the most compromised in Nigeria’s history.

Civil society organisations monitoring past elections had already flagged suspicious trends. During the Edo governorship poll in September 2024, some results uploaded to IReV reportedly exceeded the number of accredited voters. Similar anomalies were observed in the Ondo (2024) and Kogi (2023) off-cycle elections, where pre-prepared results were allegedly uploaded before the close of voting.

Further findings suggest that voter registration has been manipulated to advantage partisan interests. Some newly created polling units were deliberately underpopulated, making it easier for political loyalists to dominate, while simultaneously limiting the mobilization capacity of rival parties.

Meanwhile, political manoeuvres are reportedly underway regarding INEC leadership. Influential figures are said to be lobbying for a possible replacement for the current Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, with names of former National Commissioners and Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) already circulating.

Critics, however, warn that many of those being considered do not have clean records from their previous tenures. “Some of these individuals failed to inspire public confidence when they served,” one insider noted.

The 1999 Constitution (as amended) stipulates that the appointment or removal of the INEC Chairman, National Commissioners, and RECs must be done by the President, subject to Senate confirmation, and in consultation with the National Council of State (NCoS). Yet, some of President Bola Tinubu’s recent appointments reportedly bypassed this consultative process, raising fresh doubts about institutional independence.

Analysts and civil society groups are urging urgent intervention by the NCoS, international observers, and other stakeholders to protect the electoral process. Without such measures, they warn, Nigeria risks sliding further into a cycle of contested polls and political instability.
