Peter Obi Rubbishes Tinubu for Deceiving Nigerians with Manipulated Statistics on Inflation, Others
Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing him of misleading Nigerians with inaccurate economic data.
In a statement released on Monday morning, Obi condemned the Tinubu administration for allegedly manipulating statistics on inflation, unemployment, and the country’s GDP to paint a false picture of economic progress, while ordinary Nigerians continue to suffer.

Obi recalled a moment during the 2023 campaign season when Tinubu, then the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ridiculed him at a rally in Delta State.
“In November 2022, while campaigning in Delta State, the then APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, now the President, berated the other presidential candidate — he was ashamed to call my name — saying, ‘Na statistics we go chop? All I want is to put food on the table of Nigerians,’” Obi stated.
“Now, two years into his four-year tenure, Nigeria is classified as one of the hungriest nations in the world, with millions of Nigerians not knowing where their next meal will come from,” he added.

Obi further accused the Tinubu administration of “overfeeding Nigerians with wrong statistics,” claiming the government has presented “wrong unemployment figures, wrong inflation figures, and now GDP debasing,” in an effort to mask the country’s worsening economic and living conditions.
He emphasized that governance should not be treated like a gamble, but approached with “sincerity of purpose, character, competence, capacity, and compassion.”
Reiterating his campaign message, Obi concluded his statement with his signature slogan: “A new Nigeria is POssible.”

The Presidency has yet to respond to Obi’s remarks at the time of filing this report.
