Peter Obi Reason Nigerians Are Suffering Under Tinubu — Pastor Giwa
The Senior Pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming of Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa, has blamed Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, for Nigeria’s current challenges under President Bola Tinubu.

According to Pastor Giwa, Obi’s participation in the election served as a “spoiler,” weakening the opposition’s chances of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking in an interview with NEWS WEEK NIGERIA, Pastor Giwa emphasized that no single opposition party could unseat the ruling party in Nigeria.
He noted that successful challenges to the government, such as the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, required opposition parties to form alliances. In contrast, Obi’s decision to run independently, despite knowing his slim chances of victory, fragmented the opposition vote.

“Peter Obi knew he couldn’t have defeated the ruling party in the 2023 presidential election. He, however, emerged to play the spoiler role,” Pastor Giwa remarked. He went on to argue that Obi’s involvement is a key reason Nigerians are now enduring economic hardship under Tinubu’s leadership.
Giwa said: “The opposition parties are the major problem facing Nigeria.
“Peter Obi knew he couldn’t have defeated the ruling party in the 2023 presidential election. He, however, emerged to play the spoiler role.
“He is the reason Nigerians are suffering under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu. Nigeria is not a country where a single party can defeat a ruling party.
“Do you know how many parties that aligned together to defeat Goodluck Jonathan in 2015? Buhari lost three times before he decided to form an alliance with other political parties to defeat the PDP.
“Again, the nation’s electoral system is convoluted in such a way that the least person could become the first. This is what has continued to play out in the country.
“It happened during Obasanjo and Jonathan’s terms. It takes those who know God to do what is right. These politicians are selfish and not ready to address challenges facing Nigeria.
“If you could leave someone who claims to be a member of your party to serve as Minister under another political party, it portrays you to be a jester.
“When you know that you have a common enemy, you should join hands to defeat him.”
Giwa drew parallels with previous elections, noting that even Muhammadu Buhari, who lost three times before his eventual victory in 2015, needed to form alliances to succeed. He suggested that Nigeria’s convoluted electoral system allows unexpected outcomes, where “the least person could become the first.”
The clergyman also criticized the lack of unity among opposition parties and described Nigerian politicians as selfish, claiming they are unwilling to address the country’s real challenges. In his view, only those who “know God” are capable of doing what is right for the country.
Pastor Giwa’s comments come at a time when many Nigerians are expressing frustration with the current administration’s economic policies and governance, as the nation grapples with inflation, unemployment, and other socio-economic challenges.
