“Peter Obi Is A Drug Baron, A Lady He Sent As A Courier Has Been Arrested and Detained in Peru” —– Asari Dokubo
Prominent ex-Niger Delta militant and controversial political figure, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, has stirred nationwide outrage following new allegations accusing former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of being involved in international drug trafficking.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Asari claimed that Obi is a “drug baron” and once used a woman as a drug courier, who is now allegedly imprisoned in Peru.

“Peter Obi is a drug baron. There’s a lady that’s in prison in Peru—he sent her as a courier,” he alleged.
The video clip was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
This is not the first time Asari Dokubo has made strong accusations against the Labour Party leader. In 2022, he described Obi as a “scammer” and a “fraud” who misled Nigerians with claims of prudent governance and economic discipline. He had also previously alleged that Obi was the true “drug baron” and questioned the credibility of his support base.

“Everybody supporting Peter Obi must be a Pablo Escobar. If not, you cannot be supporting an Escobar to become our president,” he said in a past Facebook livestream.
Dokubo has consistently criticized Obi’s performance as governor of Anambra State, accusing him of offering nothing beyond boreholes, roads, and media hype.
As of the time of filing this report, no credible evidence has been presented by Asari Dokubo to support the latest allegations. There are also no public records or formal investigations linking Peter Obi to any drug-related offenses either in Nigeria or abroad.

Peter Obi himself has not responded publicly to the new claims. The former governor, often praised for his austere lifestyle and accountability, has maintained a clean image throughout his political career and has not faced any criminal charges to date.
