PDPAPC: Fayose Attends Tinubu Endorsement Rally Wearing PDP Cap

Political drama unfolded on Saturday, July 27, as former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose stirred confusion and controversy after showing up at an All Progressives Congress (APC) endorsement rally wearing a cap emblazoned with the logo of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The rally, held in Ado-Ekiti, was organized to formally endorse the re-election of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

But it was Fayose’s bold sartorial choice that stole the spotlight, sparking mixed reactions among party faithful and igniting speculation about his political intentions.

Fayose, a two-term governor and staunch PDP figure, arrived at the rally alongside APC leaders and loyalists. While many in attendance were taken aback by his PDP-branded cap, Fayose quickly addressed the stir it caused.

“I am here to support good governance, not to play party politics,” he told the cheering crowd. “My cap is PDP, but my heart is with progress.”

He went on to commend Governor Oyebanji for what he called “focused and hardworking leadership” and applauded President Tinubu’s ongoing economic reforms, but stopped short of announcing any defection from the PDP.

The comment appeared to soothe tensions among some in the crowd, but not everyone was convinced.

“This is classic Fayose — always unpredictable,” one attendee remarked. “You can never be sure if he’s being sincere or strategic.”

APC officials at the event, including the state party chairman, tried to play down the incident, hailing Fayose’s presence as evidence of Oyebanji’s inclusive governance.

“This is a new Ekiti where good governance unites all,” said one party leader. “Governor Oyebanji welcomes support from all quarters.”

However, the development did not sit well with many within the PDP. A local party official, speaking anonymously, criticized Fayose’s appearance at the APC rally.

“Our supporters are confused. He needs to make his position clear,” the official said.

Political analysts are already weighing in on what the move could mean. Some believe Fayose may be positioning himself as a political bridge ahead of 2027, while others view the appearance as a publicity stunt to remain relevant on the national stage.

As the rally concluded, Fayose, cap still on, exited the venue smiling and waving — leaving behind a swirl of questions, interpretations, and the possibility of new political alignments in Ekiti’s evolving landscape.
