“PDP Still Has a Future, But Wike Must Be Expelled for the Party to Succeed” — Akwa Ibom PDP Chieftain

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Advocate for Peace and Justice (PAPaJ), Dr. Tom FredFish, has declared that the PDP still has a viable future in Akwa Ibom State, but insists that the party must expel the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to chart a path to success.

Dr. FredFish, speaking with journalists in Uyo on Monday, expressed confidence that the party would rebound stronger despite the high-profile defections it suffered recently, including that of Governor Umo Eno and several lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in June 2025.

“PDP is still existing and the people remaining in PDP are people of integrity, people that are committed to the party, who know how to rebuild, who can build the party to become what it used to be before the exit of certain persons,” he stated.

He acknowledged the disappointment within the party following Governor Eno’s defection but noted that loyal party members have since moved on, initiating a rebuilding process aimed at restoring the PDP’s dominance in the state.

“The future of PDP is predicated on how it can resolve its internal wranglings and purge itself of some of the bad eggs who, according to him, are not even proper members, but ‘members by association’,” FredFish emphasized.

Speaking on Wike’s continued presence in the party, the PDP chieftain did not mince words, branding the former Rivers State governor a destructive force within the PDP.

“I have said it before that they should expel Wike from the party with immediate effect. He is like a cankerworm, the type of worm that the Bible talks about that comes to your house with the purpose of killing, destroying and uprooting,” FredFish said.

According to him, Wike’s actions and utterances have consistently undermined the PDP, and his continued membership poses a major threat to the party’s unity and growth.

“Wike is not in PDP to build the party; he is not in PDP as a party man. He is in PDP to destroy. His agenda is well known. So, my own is why can’t he be expelled?” he asked.

“He has called PDP all types of bad names in the world but why can’t he leave that terrible party is the question I have asked the PDP leaders and the Board. The party can’t grow or progress with someone like Nyesom Wike.”

Dr. FredFish further advised the PDP Board of Trustees to consider legal action to reclaim control of states where elected officials have defected to the APC, noting that the framers of the Nigerian Constitution may not have anticipated such scenarios.
