The congresses, organized by Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of the state, have been a point of contention within the party.
The PDP’s National Publicity Secretary confirmed the decision, stating that the NWC would respect the existing court order that bars the holding of congresses in Rivers State.
The court order had previously put a halt to such activities due to internal party disputes.
PDP Governors, Wike draw battle line over Fubara as Rivers congress declared null and void
This move is seen as a blow to Wike, who had played a key role in organizing the congress, which many within the party saw as a “sham” gathering of his close allies.
According to Tony Ogbuagu, a member of the PDP, the NWC is set to review the congresses, indicating that the leadership in Rivers now firmly lies with Governor Sim Fubara
Ogbuagu emphasized that the party’s leadership had shifted back to Fubara, stating, “Once again, Gov. Sim Fubara is in charge, and he is the leader of the PDP in the state.”
