The lingering crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is far from being over as a prominent member of the House of Representatives, Ikenga Ugochinyere, has launched a scathing accusations against certain party leaders.
Ugochinyere accused PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum and other party officials of undermining the party’s progress and colluding with the All Progressives Congress (APC) for personal gain ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a fiery statement, Ugochinyere expressed deep frustration with what he described as internal sabotage within the PDP. “It’s as if God is punishing us in the PDP by giving us characters like them. It seems like God wants to punish those He is trying to use,” he said.
The lawmaker accused Damagum of accepting money and land from the APC in exchange for working against the interests of the PDP. He alleged that such favors are part of a broader scheme to weaken the party’s electoral prospects and pave the way for APC’s dominance in 2027.
“You are working for the APC; they give you land, money, and favors, only for you to come back and try to remove me. Why? Because I spoke the simple, elementary truth,” Ugochinyere stated.

A People’s Movement
Ugochinyere, known for his bold stance on party matters, distanced himself from what he described as the self-serving politicking of PDP leaders. He insisted that his political approach is rooted in grassroots support rather than internal party dynamics.
“We are not forged by the intricacies of party politics. We are a movement made by the people, built across party lines, and that’s why our victory is inevitable. It’s not about me personally; it’s about the people’s will,” he declared.

Leadership Crisis in the PDP
The Imo State representative also lamented the declining quality of leadership within the PDP, particularly in the Southeast region. He positioned himself as one of the last remaining voices of integrity and dedication within the party.
“If you are looking for committed and effective leadership in the PDP, I am among the few left in the region. You have no other elected officer who stands as firmly for the party,” he noted.

Self-Interest Above Party
Ugochinyere accused certain party members of prioritizing personal gain over the collective good of the PDP. He argued that these individuals see the party as a means of political survival rather than a platform for service and progress.
“They believe the only way to survive politically is by engaging in these schemes. For them, feeding from the party is the only way to secure their livelihood,” he concluded.

The Path Forward
Ugochinyere’s remarks highlight the internal crisis facing the PDP as it seeks to rebuild its strength ahead of the next general elections. While his allegations have yet to be substantiated, they underscore growing concerns about the party’s direction and the loyalty of its leaders.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, the PDP faces mounting pressure to address internal rifts and restore public confidence in its leadership. Whether the party can overcome these challenges remains to be seen.
