‘Our Party Is Not A Dumping Ground, Your Sins Won’t Be Forgiven By Defection’ — APC warns Fubara amid defection rumours

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, made it clear that joining the party will not offer Fubara a political sanctuary or erase his political missteps.
“Fubara cannot be forgiven just because he joins the APC, the APC is not a dumping ground. There are procedures and protocols that must be followed before anyone is admitted. He must begin from his ward like every other member,” Okocha declared.

The comments come as political tensions in Rivers State continue to escalate following Fubara’s suspension and ongoing standoff with members of the state legislature.
Okocha emphasized that the governor has yet to take any substantive steps toward resolving the crisis or reconciling with elected lawmakers.
“There is no reconciliation effort currently underway in Rivers,” Okocha said. “The suspended governor has made no move to engage the lawmakers or seek common ground. Only genuine reconciliation can shield him from impeachment, as the Supreme Court judgment remains binding.”

Fubara’s silence and political maneuvering have fueled speculation about a possible switch of allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. However, the APC’s latest statement signals that such a move will not guarantee immunity from political accountability.
As the political drama unfolds, analysts suggest the APC’s tough stance may be aimed at reinforcing party discipline and warding off opportunistic defections ahead of future elections. Meanwhile, the Rivers State political landscape remains tense, with many watching closely to see Fubara’s next move.
