Old Videos Resurface of Peter Odili Seeking Patience Jonathan’s Help to Make Wike Governor

Amid the ongoing rift between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, Nigerians have unearthed old videos showing how Wike’s own political rise was orchestrated with the help of former governor Peter Odili and former First Lady Patience Jonathan.

The resurfaced videos come as Wike, who has expressed regret over his role in making Fubara governor, faces public scrutiny.

In the video, Peter Odili, who served as Rivers State governor from 1999 to 2007, is seen pleading with Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, to back Wike’s governorship ambitions. Patience Jonathan was instrumental in securing Wike’s governorship bid in 2015.

Wike, who was Odili’s protégé, became Rivers governor following the intervention of the Jonathans, despite stiff opposition. Court Issues Fresh Directive To RSIEC Ahead of Rivers Local Government Elections

Justice I.P.C. Igwe of the Rivers State High Court has issued an interlocutory order directing the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RISIEC) to proceed with the scheduled Local Government elections on Saturday, October 5, 2024, or any other date deemed suitable.

In a ruling delivered earlier today, Justice Igwe also mandated all security agencies in the state to provide adequate security measures to ensure a peaceful and orderly election process.

The directive comes amidst rising concerns about the potential for violence and electoral malpractice in the region.

The court’s decision follows several legal disputes over the conduct of the elections, with some parties questioning the readiness of RISIEC and the security apparatus to guarantee a free and fair election.

Justice Igwe’s ruling effectively settles those concerns by setting a clear mandate for both the electoral body and security agencies.
