NNPP’s Kwankwaso ally, Buba Galadima, declares support for coalition, Describes Move as Fight Against Dictatorship
Prominent New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) chieftain and close ally of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Alhaji Buba Galadima, has declared his full support for the emerging opposition coalition spearheaded by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a necessary pushback against rising authoritarian tendencies in Nigeria.
Speaking during a Friday interview on Arise Television’s The Morning Show, Galadima praised the coalition’s formation as a “welcome development” that could help preserve the country’s democracy amid growing concerns about political repression and lack of inclusivity.

“In a democracy, people are allowed to air their views on any issue, whether positive or negative,” Galadima said. “For me, personally, I think the coalition is a welcome development. It’s one more dissenting voice or one more iron gate against dictatorship.”
The veteran politician emphasized the constitutional right of Nigerians to freely associate and organize, stressing that political viability is not determined by public commentary or ruling party narratives but by the Nigerian people themselves.
“The truth of the matter is that only Nigerians can decide whether somebody is expired, extinguished, refurbished, or rejuvenated,” he noted. “Under our constitution, it is the right of people to congregate, assemble, and chart a course — not only for themselves, but for the country.”

Galadima, known for his blunt political views and history of opposition politics, said the coalition deserves national support, especially in light of what he described as the current state of affairs in the country.
“I wish members of this coalition well,” he said. “I believe all well-meaning Nigerians will support them and will support their right to congregate and form a political bloc because of what is happening in this country.”
The opposition coalition, which formally adopted the ADC as its political platform on Wednesday, brings together high-profile political figures from across party lines. The movement is being positioned as a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Notable members of the coalition include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi; former Senate President David Mark; ex-Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola; former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi; and former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal.
Others involved are former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung, ex-APC National Chairman Odigie Oyegun, former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, Dino Melaye, Dele Momodu, Eyinnanya Abaribe, Gabriel Suswam, Ireti Kingibe, Senator Elisha Abbo, Uche Secondus, Victor Umeh, Lauretta Onochie, Tunde Ogbeha, and former Cross River Governor Liyel Imoke, among others.
The coalition is widely seen as a strategic attempt to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu in 2027, amid growing discontent over economic hardship, governance concerns, and perceived authoritarian governance style.
