Nigerians react as Ex-Ikwerre LGA Chairman spotted somewhere in Port Harcourt in bullet-proof vest amid Rivers LG Crisis
Amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, Nigerians are expressing growing concerns following the sighting of the former Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area (LGA) in Port Harcourt wearing a bullet-proof vest.
The sighting occurred amidst the ongoing local government crisis, which has seen significant upheaval and power struggles following the expiration of the tenure of elected chairmen, deputies, and councilors. These officials, many of whom were loyal to former governor and current Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, have been replaced by heads of administration appointed by Governor Sim Fubara.

NewsWeek Nigeria had earlier reported that Governor Sim Fubara directed heads of administration to take over the councils in all 23 LGAs, following the expiration of the tenures of elected officials.
This development comes on the heels of a series of legal and political confrontations in Rivers State. Recently, the State High Court declared the seats of the 26 State House of Assembly members loyal to Wike vacant after their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This ruling also invalidated laws and resolutions passed by these defectors, which included attempts to extend the tenure of the local government officials.
