The Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi II, has once again sparked national conversation after criticizing the behaviour and mindset of Nigeria’s political elite.
Speaking during a recent public engagement, the outspoken monarch lamented what he described as the “collapse of values” among those in leadership positions, accusing many of the nation’s educated elites of behaving like illiterates once they attain power.
According to Emir Sanusi, Nigeria has become a “classless society”, not because of equality, but because the supposed upper class, made up of highly educated politicians and technocrats, has failed to demonstrate the intellect, discipline, and moral integrity expected of them.

“Nigeria is a classless society where you have highly educated people in government who behave like illiterates and turn to praise singers,” Sanusi said. “When you see professors and Ph.D. holders clapping for mediocrity, you know something is deeply wrong.”
The former Central Bank Governor, known for his fearless truth-telling, emphasized that education without values is meaningless, and that the ruling class has abandoned their duty to the people in favor of personal gain and sycophancy.
