NDDC Chairman Debunks Claims That Calabar Road Projects Are State-Funded

The Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, has expressed deep concern over what he described as false and misleading claims suggesting that recently commissioned road projects in Calabar were funded by the Cross River State government.

The controversy over the ownership and facilitation of the projects has seen public back-and-forth between the Cross River State government and Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, who represents Cross River South in the National Assembly.

Ebie called for an end to what he described as the “politicisation of infrastructure,” noting that the projects followed all due processes.

“These roads were delivered through the proper channels, with strict adherence to procurement standards and supervision by qualified contractors and NDDC staff,” he added.

“We must not allow political interests to overshadow the facts,” Ebie said. “These projects were fully initiated, funded, and implemented by the NDDC, following strict procedural guidelines involving both contractors and Commission staff.”

He urged stakeholders to focus on the benefits of the infrastructure to the people of Cross River State rather than engage in what he termed “unnecessary distractions.”

He reiterated that the Commission followed all due process in the award and execution of the projects and stressed the importance of giving credit where it is due to encourage accountability and transparency in public infrastructure delivery.
