The Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Council may be on the verge of losing his seat as Cross River State Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu, has ordered a full-scale judicial investigation into the disruption of a recent project commissioning event organized by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Calabar.
The decision follows a tense incident on June 13, 2025, when NDDC’s road project commissioning ceremony in the Calabar metropolis was suddenly interrupted under controversial circumstances.

In a press release issued on Monday, June 16, by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, Governor Otu announced the constitution of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to probe the matter thoroughly and “ascertain the truth from the divergent narratives circulating in the public domain.”
According to the statement, the Commission has been mandated to identify individuals responsible for the disruption and recommend disciplinary or legal actions where necessary.
“The Commission shall identify the perpetrators and make appropriate recommendations for further disciplinary and/or criminal proceedings to be pursued against identified perpetrators,” the statement read.

The Commission, which has been given until July 1, 2025, to submit its report, comprises:
