Kwankwaso Meets Tinubu, Concludes Plans To Join APC

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate for president in the 2023 election, is reportedly moving to join the governing All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was disclosed by AbdulMajid Dan Bilki Kwamanda, a supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, to reporters in Kano at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) secretariat.

The APC leader emphasized that Kwankwaso cannot be trusted and that he always joins political movements for his own benefit, saying that his plan would be met with fierce hostility.

Bola Tinubu, the incoming president, was cautioned by Kwamanda to reject Kwankwaso’s claimed plan to join the APC.

The presidential election conducted on February 25, 2023, behind Tinubu of the APC, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In his letter, Kwamanda warned that allowing the NNPP candidate into the APC will cause significant quarrel among party loyalists in response to news of purported covert meetings between Kwankwaso and Tinubu to bring the Kwankwaso back to the party.

“We will fight to a standstill, this move, no matter what will not happen to the party,” Kwamanda said.

He claimed that the party and the people of the North had given their all to Tinubu’s election as president, thus he felt compelled to make amends. He also noted that politics in the North are unique and difficult to influence by a single individual.

As a professional analyst, Kwankwaso will not benefit the APC because he is a self-centered individual who only ever joins organizations or political parties for his own personal gain as opposed to the good of the entire community.

He emphasized that bringing Kwankwaso into the APC would be a betrayal of Northerners, which in his opinion would not be advantageous for Tinubu in the future.

He disproved the claims that Senator Kashim Shettima, the vice president-elect, will be hindered by Kwankwaso’s presence because Shettima is significantly more powerful in national politics than Kwankwaso.

Speaking on behalf of the 10th National Assembly, he said that only the Northwest was deserving of the position of Senate President and that the South-South had no right to object because they had not joined forces to establish the new government.

They didn’t work for us, they were against the Muslim-Muslim ticket. They didn’t consider it during Jonathan when the president, Senate President and his deputy were all Christians. So now it is time for the North, even in the North, it is time for Barau Jibrin to be the Senate president. This is our choice and is what we are calling for,” he said.

He urged Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the party’s national chairman, to quit advocating for zoning, claiming that northerners would oppose it and that it would be bad for the party.
