JUST IN: Trump’s Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt Resigns to Focus on Family, Says She Can’t Give Her Children the Attention They Deserve

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has announced that she will leave the Trump administration at the end of August, saying she can no longer balance the demanding responsibilities of her job with being the mother she wants to be to her two young children.

President Donald Trump announced Leavitt’s departure on Wednesday, praising the 28-year-old press secretary and revealing that she would continue working with him as one of his top advisers outside the administration.

Trump also indicated that Leavitt would remain active in the Republican Party as the party prepares for the 2026 midterm elections.

In a statement announcing her decision, Leavitt described her tenure as White House press secretary as “the honor and adventure of a lifetime” and expressed gratitude to Trump for giving her the opportunity to serve in the role.

She said the position allowed her to work in the West Wing, spend time in the Oval Office, travel internationally, meet foreign leaders and interact with Americans across the United States.

“Most of all, I am thankful to the President for entrusting me with the distinct privilege of speaking on his behalf at the White House podium,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt, who frequently defended the administration and engaged in heated exchanges with journalists, said she took pride in promoting Trump’s record and challenging what she described as liberal media coverage.

However, she said motherhood had changed her perspective on the demands of the position.

“Being a mother and welcoming a new baby while working in one of the most demanding jobs in the world has been the most rewarding yet challenging season of my life, to say the least,” she said.

Leavitt gave birth to her second child, a daughter, in May and returned to the White House podium on July 16 after maternity leave.

She said returning to work made her realise that the demands of the press secretary’s position prevented her from giving her children the time and attention she believed they deserved.

“The truth is since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary,” she said.

“And that is why I have ultimately made the bittersweet decision to depart the White House and embark on a new chapter in my life.”

Although she is stepping down from her formal White House role, Leavitt said Trump had asked her to continue advising him from outside the administration.

She also vowed to remain a vocal supporter of the MAGA movement and the Republican Party.

“My fight is entering a new phase, but it is far from over,” Leavitt said, while accusing Democrats of posing what she called an “existential threat” to the country.

Trump said Leavitt would remain involved in efforts to help Republicans secure victories in the 2026 midterm elections.

Leavitt became the youngest person to serve as White House press secretary when Trump appointed her at the age of 27. She became one of the most recognisable members of the administration, regularly appearing at the White House podium to defend the president and his policies.

In her farewell statement, Leavitt thanked Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, members of the Trump family, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, administration officials, colleagues and members of her staff.

She also expressed special appreciation to her husband and family for the sacrifices they made to support her while she served in one of the most high-profile positions in the administration.

“And of course, thank you most especially to my loving and supportive husband and family for the sacrifices they made for me to serve in this role,” she said.
