Peter Obi Declared Winner of Rivers 2023 Election
Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, actually won the presidential election in Rivers State, but the results were changed.
Amaechi made the statement on Saturday during a live discussion on X Space, acknowledging, “I can agree with you to some extent that Obi won Rivers State, but I don’t know how the results were changed.”
His remarks reignite controversy over the outcome of the February 2023 presidential election in the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Rivers winner, a result disputed by opposition supporters and observers.
During the discussion, Amaechi also disclosed that he and former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, initiated talks that birthed an opposition coalition to challenge the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the initial private discussions between the duo later expanded to include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Secretaries to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal and Boss Mustapha, former Senate President David Mark, ex-Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola, and former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung, among others.
Amaechi’s revelation adds a new twist to the ongoing political realignments, as the coalition seeks to unseat the ruling party in the next general elections.
