PDP NWC Backs Ologunagba on NEC Meeting Date, Disowns Damagum’s Position

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly disowned a statement attributed to its Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Illya Damagum, distancing the party from comments he made regarding the scheduled 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

The NWC, in a statement jointly signed by seven top officials including Deputy National Chairman (South), Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, and National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, reiterated its support for the NEC meeting slated for Monday, June 30, 2025.

The committee firmly declared that Ologunagba’s media briefing held on June 22 — during which he reaffirmed the date — was made with full authorization and accurately represented the party’s official position.

Their clarification follows a widely circulated statement reportedly signed by Damagum, in which he alleged that Ologunagba was not authorized by the NWC to announce the date of the NEC meeting. The NWC, however, flatly rejected this claim.

“It is important to clarify that the comments made by the National Publicity Secretary at that media session with regard to the scheduled 100th NEC meeting is the position of the party and he has the authority and backing of the NWC,” the statement emphasized.

According to the NWC, the decision to hold the 100th NEC meeting on June 30 was unanimously adopted during the party’s 99th NEC session held on May 27, 2025 — a resolution publicly announced by Damagum himself at the time.

“All other Organs, officers, chapters, and bodies of the PDP are bound by the decision of NEC,” the statement added.

The signatories to the NWC’s position include high-ranking figures such as Hon. Setonji Koshoedo (Acting National Secretary), Sir Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel (National Auditor), Woyengikuro Daniel, Ph.D. (National Financial Secretary), and others — underscoring widespread consensus within the party leadership.
