PDP Backs Wike Against Fubara as Rivers Crisis Deepens
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated its unwavering support for Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, amid ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
The party’s leadership praised Wike’s loyalty, describing him as one of its most committed members despite internal challenges and political disputes.

Speaking at a book launch in Wike’s honour, Taofeek Arapaja, the PDP Deputy National Chairman (South), commended Wike for his steadfast contributions to the party. Arapaja underscored Wike’s dedication, emphasizing that he had never left the party, even during turbulent times.
“Our mentor and principal, who has never left the PDP for a day, is one of the most committed and loyal party leaders we have ever had,” Arapaja said. “He has done well, he is doing well, and we wish him well in all his future endeavours.”
Wike’s Advocacy for Justice and Integrity
Arapaja highlighted Wike’s leadership role in the G5 group, a faction within the PDP that has consistently championed equity, justice, and fairness. He contrasted Wike’s commitment with what he described as an “entitlement mentality” among some members who engage with the party only when it suits their interests.
“We know you, and we always love and appreciate you,” Arapaja said, addressing Wike. “Some people believe in entitlement mentality, but we will always stand by you because you are a man of integrity, honour, and a performer.”
This show of solidarity comes amid reports of strained relations between Wike and Siminalayi Fubara, the Rivers State governor. While details of the rift remain unclear, it has added a new dimension to the political dynamics within the state and the party.
PDP Responds to Akpabio’s Criticism
Arapaja also took the opportunity to respond to recent criticism of the PDP by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He expressed disappointment in Akpabio’s remarks, noting that the Senate President, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State under the PDP, owes much of his political success to the party.
“The foundation of all political parties is the PDP. I am surprised when someone who is a product of the PDP speaks negatively about it,” Arapaja said. Despite his criticism, Arapaja acknowledged Akpabio’s performance as governor, adding, “Nobody can dispute the fact that the present Senate President performed during his tenure as governor under the PDP.”
Rivers State Crisis and Party Unity
The Rivers crisis continues to test the PDP’s internal cohesion, with Wike and Fubara reportedly at odds over governance and political influence in the state. However, the party’s backing of Wike signals its intent to stand by influential leaders amid ongoing challenges.
