A former member of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Okpechi Friday Gabriel, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

 

Gabriel, who previously represented Obubra I State Constituency, formalised his ambition on May 4, 2026, after purchasing his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, becoming the first aspirant to enter the race ahead of the party’s primaries.

 

The nomination forms were presented to him by the PDP Cross River State Secretary, Joe Obi Bisong, alongside the State Organising Secretary, Helen Boko.

His entry into the race sets the stage for a contest against the incumbent lawmaker, Mike Etaba, who currently represents the Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency.

 

The event attracted several party leaders and stakeholders from across the state, underscoring growing interest in the upcoming contest. Among those present were the PDP Vice Chairman (Central), Irek Ekawon; State Publicity Secretary, Mike Ojisi; Obubra Chapter Chairman, Thomas Mbina; Etung Chapter Chairman, David Ayang; as well as former lawmakers Moses Onoh and Fred Osim.
