Former Cross River PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate Emana Dumps Sandy Onor, Officially joins APC with supporters
Dr. Emana Duke-Amawhe, the former Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), taking along a sizable number of her supporters.
The defection took place on Friday at her Edem Odo Ward in Akpabuyo Local Government Area, where she was received by APC leaders and party faithful.

Duke-Amawhe, a former broadcast journalist who ventured into politics, cited the achievements of the APC-led government at both state and federal levels as the driving force behind her move.
“I’m excited to now be part and parcel of the APC family,” she told supporters. “As a daughter of Cross River South, I have seen the good works our governor, His Excellency Bassey Otu, has been doing. Even the blind hears when good things are happening.”
She also expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, emphasizing that while the country faces economic challenges, progress is being made.

“Nothing good happens overnight. The president has placed the right pegs in the right holes. Bit by bit, day after day, we are moving closer to an economic uptick,” she said.
Duke-Amawhe was quick to dispel speculations that her defection was fueled by political ambition or personal gain, stressing that her goal is to contribute meaningfully to governance and grassroots development.
“I’m not here because of hunger or for an appointment. I’m here to work with those in power to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people,” she asserted.

She called on members of the opposition to adopt a more constructive approach, urging them to support efforts to build the state.
“If there’s going to be an opposition, let it be viable and contribute meaningfully to development. I am a nation-builder, and that’s why I am now part of the APC,” she added.
Duke-Amawhe’s defection is seen as a strategic gain for the APC in Cross River State, as political alignments begin to shift ahead of future elections.
