Atiku’s Presidency Suffers Setback as Key Aide Returns to PDP 28 Days After Joining ADC
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential ambition has suffered a blow as one of his close allies, Odih Rowland, leader of the Atiku Youth Wing, has dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) barely 28 days after joining the party and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter dated August 27 and addressed to PDP National Chairman, Umar Damagum, Rowland tendered an unreserved apology to the opposition party, describing his defection to ADC on August 1 as a “grave mistake.”

“I realize now that I made a grave mistake by leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party that has nurtured my political career for 24 years. I want to apologize to the entire PDP leadership, members, and supporters for my actions,” he wrote.
Rowland praised the PDP’s values of truth, justice, and internal democracy, while commending the leadership’s ability to resolve its internal crisis. He noted that the party’s cohesion demonstrates its capacity to reclaim power in the 2027 elections.
“I am particularly impressed by the leadership of our National Chairman, which demonstrates PDP’s capacity to win the 2027 elections. I firmly believe my impact will be more significant in PDP than in any other party,” the Abuja-based politician added.

Rowland confirmed that his decision to return was influenced by consultations with party leaders at all levels and vowed to work tirelessly for the PDP’s victory in the next general elections.
