Another Wave of Defection Rocks Kano as PDP Candidates Join ADC

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened in Kano State, as a fresh wave of defections has hit the party, with several of its 2023 general election candidates officially dumping the PDP for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

At a press briefing held in Kano on Thursday, the former PDP candidates, led by Hon. AbdulRahman M. Salga, made their defection public, citing unresolved internal crises, lack of direction, and self-serving leadership within the PDP as reasons for their exit.

Salga, who contested the Dala Federal Constituency seat under the PDP and also coordinated the PDP One Family group in the state, said the decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, grassroots supporters, and family members.

“We took this step after engaging with our followers, relatives, and friends, who also expressed disappointment with the ongoing crises in the PDP,” Salga said. “It is clear to us that certain individuals have turned the party into a personal enterprise, prioritizing self-interest over collective progress.”

He decried the prolonged factionalism and infighting that, according to him, had gradually weakened the PDP’s base in Kano and alienated committed members like himself who were focused on public service.

“Our political journey is about providing meaningful solutions to the problems facing our people, especially the common man,” he added. “After careful consideration, we, as candidates, decided to move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where we can pursue our goals without hindrance.”

Another former PDP candidate, Mainasara, echoed Salga’s sentiments, noting that the defection was not only necessary but overdue.

“Our return to the ADC marks the beginning of a new chapter where we will conduct our political activities with ambition, freedom, and a commitment to solving the challenges facing the people of Kano and Nigeria at large,” he stated.

Mainasara also revealed that preparations were already underway for a major rally in Kano to formally welcome the defectors and unveil their roadmap under the ADC platform.
