“It is illegal, unethical and unfair” — FCT Senator Accuses Wike of reducing son’s Title Land Bill from N200 million to 2M in 48 hours

Fresh allegations have emerged against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the FCT in the Senate, has accused him of serious misconduct in Abuja land allocations.

Speaking during an appearance on ARISE News’ Prime Time programme, Senator Kingibe alleged that Wike granted his son a questionable land allocation and, within 48 hours, slashed the associated payment from over ₦200 million to just ₦2 million. She described this as unethical and potentially illegal, claiming to have documents to support her assertions.

The senator, who has openly clashed with Wike in the past over what she describes as his disregard for legal processes and transparency, said she plans to present the documents to the relevant legislative oversight bodies to demand accountability.

Kingibe criticized the lack of financial transparency under Wike’s leadership, especially with regard to Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and spending from the Treasury Single Account (TSA). She questioned how the FCT funds are being spent, asserting that the Minister does not provide the National Assembly with adequate financial details.

She expressed concern over a black SUV that followed her from Abuja airport recently, implying possible surveillance or intimidation. However, she stated that she remains undeterred in performing her legislative duties, emphasizing that her role includes speaking out against actions she believes are wrong.

The senator insisted that stronger oversight of Wike’s activities is necessary and said she would not remain silent in the face of impunity. She reiterated that any public official deriving power from the President must also operate with accountability to the National Assembly, not outside it
