Ikom LGA on standstill as mammoth crowd greets LG endorsement rally, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, Council Boss & Others Extolled Tinubu, Otu
It was a roll call of who’s who in Ikom LGA when opinion moulders, men and women groups, civil liberty fora, party stalwarts, and other stakeholders, converged at Ikom Local Government Council Secretariat and endorsed the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, his Vice, Sen. Kashim Shettima GCON, as well as Apostle Sen. [Prince] Bassey Edet Otu and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey. Declaring the event open, the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy Hon. Prince Eka Williams, expressed confidence in the emerging indices of transformation, orchestrated by President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the People First mantra of Prince Bassey Otu. The Commissioner, who doubles as Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, applauded the leadership style of the President as well as that of the Cross River Governor, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, urging the people to demonstrate outstanding faith in the leadership at both the National and State levels.
Speaking at the impressive endorsement rally, Chairman of the occasion, Distinguished Sen. Victor Ndoma-Egba, OFR, CON, SAN, assured their Excellencies of their return in 2027, as a demonstration of the people’s unwavering support and confidence in their leadership. The former Senate Leader expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, Governor Otu, and his dear Wife for their outstanding love and support for Ikom people, enumerating a plethora of life-impacting projects that have been implemented in the LGA by the State Governor.
“As a State and as a Country, we are experiencing the pains of healing; as such, we must remain steadfast and committed to the administration, and soon we will begin to feel the benefits of this healing. Ikom people are saying thank you to Mr. President and the Governor, for the major ongoing projects that would upgrade Ikom LGA. The 15km roads are already awarded and ongoing, in no distant time, Ikom would have a well-furnished General Hospital, the Ikom Specialist Hospital project that was stalled due to poor funding is ongoing with more modernisation, which includes a Mortuary and a Staff Quarters.” Ndoma-Egba stated.
The Senior Advocate further urged the Government to extend the road network beyond 15km to at least 30 km.
He advocated a good strategy to ensure that Ikom people are appointed into strategic positions to boost cocoa production in Ikom and the state in general.
Proposing a motion for endorsement of the President, Bola Tinubu, Alhaji Kashim Shetima, Prince Bassey Otu, and Dr. Peter Odey for a second term, Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem stated that the administration of Apostle Senator [Prince] Bassey Edet Otu has performed tremendously in a space of two years and therefore deserves a second term. The speaker highlighted numerous ongoing projects in Ikom embarked upon by this administration and unequivocally moved for their endorsement and the motion was seconded by the member representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, Hon Victor Abang and Hon. Neji Abang
Earlier, the Chief Host/ Executive Chairman Of Ikom Local Government Council, Hon. Pst. [Mrs] Mercy Nsor, stated that Ikom being the capital of Central Senatorial District of Cross River, decided to do their endorsement last because Cross Riverians knows how powerful and resolute the LGA is in the course of Mr. President and our amiable Governor.
Hon. Nsor who declared that there are no vacancies in Aso Rock and Cross River Peregrino abode of Government House, Calabar, in 2027, assured their Excellencies of bloc votes for the APC from all the eleven Council Wards of Ikom LGA.
“God has blessed us with a President and a Governor who are passionate about the welfare of the people. Under Governor Otu’s leadership, Ikom LGA has witnessed significant development, with various projects and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of its citizens. The Governor and his Wife have shown outstanding love and commitment to the welfare of the Ikom people, and this endorsement rally today, attended by a large crowd of supporters, who came out in their numbers to show their solidarity to their Excellencies, is a clear indication that Ikom is APC.” she stated. The Chairman informed that the event is also a testament to the unity and cohesion that exists amongst the people showing the determination to support our leaders in their quest for development. Pst. Nsor used the occasion to welcome the new entrants and returnees into the APC.
Other speakers during the event were Chief Barr. Chris Agara, Hon. Kingsley Egume, and the Leader of Council, Hon. Moyo Efale, unanimously endorsed their Excellencies and assured them of victory come 2027.
Highlights of the well-attended event were: a formal motion for the endorsement of Their Excellencies, President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, Sen. Kashim Shettima, GCON, Apostle Sen. [Prince] Bassey Edet Otu, and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, moved by the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, defection of Hon. Christopher Itafu Njar from the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] to the All Progressive Congress [APC] along with his supporters. The event also featured cultural/traditional dances, amongst other activities. In attendance were APC stakeholders, the Chairman of Etung LGA, Supervisors, Political appointees, Traditional Rulers, Religious Leaders, and other well-wishers/party faithful.
