Ikom LG Council Chairman Reduce Cyclist/Okada Traffic; Introduces Mini Bus Shuttle Services

In a bid to decongest the town and enhance road safety, the Executive Chairman of Ikom Local Government Area, Hon. Pst. [Mrs.] Mercy Nsor, has introduced a Mini Bus Shuttle Service. This initiative, undertaken in partnership with the Cross River State Commercial Transport Regulation Agency [CTRA], aims to reduce the high influx of commercial cyclists in the metropolis and to also ensure that the high cost of transportation fare becomes a thing of the past.

The introduction of the Mini Bus Shuttle Service which has been launched by the Executive Chairman of Council, is expected to significantly reduce congestion in the town, which has been exacerbated by the growing number of commercial cyclists. Moreover, the initiative seeks to minimize the risk of avoidable accidents caused by reckless cycling by the Okada riders resulting to unnecessary injuries and even deaths in most cases.

Speaking during the launching exercise, Hon. Mercy Nsor applauded the efforts and leadership style of the State Governor, His Excellency, Apostle Sen. [Prince] Bassey Edet Otu for paying attention to the transportation sector, she commended the pragmatic nature of the State Chairman of the Commercial Transport Regulation Agency [CTRA], Ntufam Effa Nyong, while assuring the good people of Ikom LGA of more positive opportunities and policy implementations that would help alleviate them from suffering.

“The reason behind this initiative/development is not to spite or witch-hunt anyone, I don’t play politics when it comes to the welfare of my people and this is the major reason why I’ve decided to give my people an alternative means of transportation other than the usual Okada that has been enjoying monopoly, failing to consider the pains of the people in terms of high transportation cost even after several pleas.

Henceforth, we now have an option to either go by Okada or by Mimi Bus Shuttle, the choice is ours to make. But in all, the safety, comfort, and welfare of every son and daughter of Ikom LGA remains my priority. In the transportation sector, when there’s monopoly, the people suffers but when there’s a high level of competition and alternatives, transportation fares drastically reduces, this is the reason why my administration in collaboration with CTRA has decided to introduce mini bus shuttle service for our people.”
